How do you prepare before your automatic spray tan?
Preparation is key to a natural, streak-free tan. Make these steps part of your normal beauty regimen for smooth, vibrant skin before and after you tan.
Prep Your Skin
The MOST important part of washing your body before your spray appointment is to remove all the beauty product residue from your skin. Lotion, perfume, deodorant, body spray, etc. All these things can cause a barrier between your skin and the spray tan solution.
Exfoliate. Before you tan, exfoliate away any excess skin cells. Pay special attention to rough areas like the knees, elbows, ankles, and heels. Make sure to use a mild body wash that is clean rinsing and does not add extra moisturizing finish as it will coat the skin.
Come to your appointment make-up free. Remove makeup and any other products that could inhibit absorption.
Many shower products contain oil, wax, and moisturizers that will coat your skin, not allowing your tan to soak in evenly
Moisturize
Dry, imbalanced skin will over-absorb DHA (the active ingredient in sunless tanning products) and may risk bring an unnatural hue. Hydrating your skin is important but skip the lotion the day of your appointment.

Shaving/Waxing
If you plan to wax or shave, do so before you tan. Waxing afterward could remove the tanned layers of skin, leaving streaks
Put on Loose-Fitting Clothing
It’s easy– think simple and loose. Whether it’s the weekend and you have sweats and a t-shirt or you’re going to or from work in a maxi skirt, keep clothing dark and loose that day until you shower.
Don’t worry if some gets onto your clothes, it is water soluble and will be removed after the next wash in cold water.
After Automatic Spray Tan
Wait to Shower
Stay dry for 4-6 hours to allow the natural tan time to develop. Also try to avoid swimming and sweating from exercise during that period.
If you use a product containing bronzer, it will wash off when you shower, leaving the extended tan underneath. With VersaSpa products, your tan will take up to 24 hours to reach peak color, and last for about a week with one application.
Use Gentle Cleansers
Use a sulfate-free body wash. Gentle and non-stripping to help keep your bronzy color on your skin. The body naturally exfoliates the epidermis, or top layer of skin, weekly. So, when you notice fading, exfoliate your skin in the areas that are losing color to help your tan fade naturally.
Keep Moisturizing
Just like before you tan, dry skin after you tan can cause color to fade faster and become uneven. To combat this, keep skin hydrated with a daily moisturizer. Better yet, use a lotion with gradual tanner to replace color as the tan fades.
Pair with Gradual Tanner (optional)
